Sharon Green

July 1, 1997
This month, we've chosen to feature author-extraordinaire Sharon Green. Sharon has written numerous works of both fantasy and science fiction over the years, and all of them are enjoyable. Her attention to characterization, romance, and plot make each of her works a joy to read.

The Woman
Sharon Green discovered Science Fiction at the age of twelve. A voracious reader, she qualified for the school library medal but didn't get it because the librarian didn't approve of SF. ("If you want to press the point," she writes, "you could say Lucky Starr, Space Ranger got me in trouble in junior high school. It would be the literal truth.")

Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Sharon attended New York University, where she got rid of an unwanted admirer by convincing him she was from another planet. She graduated with a B.A. in 1963. Later that year, she married and had three sons in New Jersey - Andy, Brian, and Curtis. She divorced in 1976. Sharon had several different jobs during those years. She worked for AT&T as a shareowner correspondent, then as an all-around assistant in a construction company, then sold bar steel and acted as an assistant sales manager for an import firm. She left that job in 1984 to write, and has been writing full time since then.

Cover of novel: Far Side of Forever Currently Ms. Green lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her cats and two computers. A prolific writer, she is the author of over a dozen books in several genres, including the Terrilian Warrior series, the Jalav series, Dawn Song, Silver Princess, Golden Knight, The Hidden Realms, Dark Mirror, Dark Dreams, Wind Whispers, Shadow Shouts, Game's End. She also has a new series out, The Blending.

Sharon doesn't do her own research, stating "If I did I'd stay with that and never get any writing done." She can usually finish a novel of about 120,000 words in about three months.

Her diverse hobbies include: knitting, crocheting, Tae Kwon Do (in which she has a purple belt), fencing, archery, shooting, horseback riding, jigsaw puzzles, logic problems, and math problems.
