Horror

The horror genre began in approximately the late 18th century — and some would argue, even earlier — with the writings of its earliest pioneers, authors like Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker. It was originally considered something of an anomaly in those strait-laced times, and those authors were thought to be "eccentric." The genre has encompassed numerous different styles over the years from many unique authors, including Edgar Allen Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, and, the most recent "king" of the genre, Stephen King. Horror has come a long way toward gaining both popular and critical acceptance since its beginnings.
