Science Fiction
Science fiction has its roots in the works of pioneering authors like Jules Verne, Mary Shelley and H. G. Wells. They were some of the first to use extrapolations of contemporary science as a part of their novels' themes. Sci fi thrived with the arrival in the 20th century of pulp fiction magazines like Amazing Stories, New Worlds, and Startling Stories; they filled a public appetite for the fantastic and futuristic, as well as spawning many other similar sci-fi and fantasy magazines. Science fiction's contemporary popularity is constantly proven by the success of new sci fi novels, record-breaking films, and TV stations like the Sci Fi Channel.
